Meet the Maker: LIFE is better in COLOUR

April 28, 2018

Here is the next installment in our Meet the Maker series. Let's meet LIFE is better in COLOUR!

1) Who are you and what do you make?

My name's Laura and I'm a colour loving creative who wants to make the world a brighter place! At LIFE is better in COLOUR we design cheerful badges, brooches and accessories that help make your outfit and your home more colourful.

2) What first got you into making things?

Although I studied Multi-Media Textiles at university, it took nearly ten years after completing my degree before I started working creatively as part of my job! I've always loved working with my hands and it makes me so happy that I can earn money doing something that gives me so much pleasure.

3) What does a day in the life of LIFE is better in COLOUR look like? (if there is such a things as a standard day?)

LIFE is better in COLOUR, every single day is different - there are so many things involved in running a small business there is no time to get bored! During the week, I work as an administrator for a charity, so my creative life gets crammed into a few hours every evening. I usually spend this time trying to promote our work on social media as well as emailing stockists and doing business admin.

But my favourite days are Friday and Saturday as these are the days I spend in the craft room, making stock and designing new work. On Sundays I like to have a lie-in and then I'm scheduled to catch up on housework (but usually you'll find me back in the craft room having totally ignored the piles of washing that need doing!)

4) What hopes and plans do you have for your handmade business the future?

We're really keen on the idea of making life more colourful, and during 2018 we have two main objectives: We want to share our positive products with a much wider audience and are looking to develop the wholesale side of our business, and we also want to encourage more people to get creative and will be running a series of colourful craft workshops. First up is the Rainbow Notebook Workshop at All Good Stuff in May.
