Meet the Maker: Lily Marsha Designs

April 13, 2018

Here is the first in our Meet the Maker series. Let's meet Lily Marsha Designs!

1) Who are you and what do you make?

Nicola Cadman, designer of steampunk and Gothic inspired jewellery, hats and lighting. Owner of Lily Marsha Designs.

2) What first got you into making things?

With a high street design background I have always been interested in different trends and styles. Since having our own family I wanted to spend more time at home while still allowing my creative needs to be met.

I studied interior design which I love and found that I really wanted to design lighting and lamps. I have a very talented husband who can turn my designs into working lights and we found that we could make the styles we wanted at a more budget friendly price. The jewellery and hats harp back to my days of high street design.

3) What does a day in the life of Lily Marsha Design look like? (if there is such a things as a standard day?)

A typical day as such involves me working an early morning shift as a part time merchandiser on the high street. I keep a sketch pad with me at all times to make a note of any new ideas or designs. Keeping up to date with current trends that I do sometimes incorporate into my ideas, however my passions are salvage, vintage, steampunk and Gothic.

I have a couple of concessions that I have to keep stocked and updated as well as an online shop that I update weekly. The online Etsy store is doing quite well and I ship quite a lot internationally. Especially to the US where they love the whole steampunk and traditional English styles of the bowler hats. I have a collaboration with a very talented local man who handcrafts all the walking sticks that I sell. My social media accounts are worked with new products which I photograph and update daily.

4) What hopes and plans do you have for your handmade business the future?

Currently my plans are to expand as much as possible. I have recently been approved as a supplier of Harry Potter jewellery which is so exciting.

Lily Marsha Designs is available at Carlton House Worksop, Minnie & Ruth’s Tea Room high road Carlton in Lindrick and online on Etsy.
